Our Approach
The site had planning consent for a 4 or 5-star hotel along with business centre. Jansons acquired the site unconditionally and renegotiated the planning consent to include retail accommodation on Southbridge and adapted the design for a pre-let to Ibis on a long-term lease setting up the opportunity for the scheme to be forward funded by one of the LaSalle funds.
The Development
The project involved the re-development of this UNESCO World Heritage site in the old town of Edinburgh to create a mix of uses including an Ibis Hotel, a Sainsbury Local Store and a Costa Coffee.
It also included the reinstatement of the former Belle Angelle nightclub which had been destroyed in a major fire in 2002.
New public realm spaces were created to link Cowgate to South Bridge.
