Virgin founder, Sir Richard Branson teamed up with Jansons Property at the construction launch of one of the most prestigious hotel projects in Edinburgh’s recent history.
The scheme, to transform the magnificent 150-year-old India Building into the Europe’s first Virgin Hotel, provided a first chance for Jansons Property Managing Director, Andy Jansons to meet the Virgin entrepreneur.
During the event, Sir Richard said: “Edinburgh is such an iconic city and we’re thrilled to be able to say it will be the home of the first Virgin Hotel in the UK and across Europe.
As a hotspot for weekend breaks, attracting tourists from both the UK and internationally, Edinburgh is well placed to accommodate the first Virgin Hotel outside of the U.S.
The new hotel, scheduled to open in 2020, is in the city’s Old Town near The Royal Mile. The space will feature 225 Chambers and Grand Chamber Suites and multiple dining and drinking outlets, including the brand’s flagship space, the Commons Club.
Andy Jansons added “It is a great pleasure to work alongside Virgin Hotels on this landmark venture. The development will reflect the fantastic energy and creative culture which the city of Edinburgh offers, delivering a truly unique hotel offering, whilst remaining true to it’s historic heritage.
