New Survey Reveals UK Neglecting Heart Health
Just released figures show most of us aren’t consciously looking after our heart
(Buckinghamshire, United Kingdom) Tuesday, 18th February 2025:- A brand-new survey conducted during National Heart Month 2025, shows more than half of us aren’t doing things like exercising regularly or eating a balanced diet to consciously look after our hearts.
The research was conducted by the charity Myocarditis UK as National Heart Month 2025 gets underway across the UK. The results indicate that there is still a large proportion of us who aren’t consciously taking care of one of our most critical organs.
In a survey of more than 2000 individuals nationwide, 81% of respondents didn’t prioritise attending regular health check-ups as a way to care for their heart health. Only 35% avoided smoking and/or tobacco products, and just 30% limited alcohol consumption to intentionally look after their heart.
“Heart health is something we all take for granted—until it’s too late,” comments Andy Jansons, Chair of Myocarditis UK, “Too many people aren’t consciously choosing to make simple lifestyle changes that could save their lives. Taking care of your heart isn’t just important—it’s essential.”
Myocarditis, an inflammation of the heart muscle, is the third leading cause of sudden death in children and young adults in the UK, although it can affect anyone, at any age, and can occur in people with no history of previous illness.
“These should be conscious choices we’re all making,” continues Andy, whose son Alexander Jansons died from myocarditis at the age of 18, “We need to be more proactive in prioritising regular check-ups, healthy eating, and staying active to reduce the risk of heart disease before it becomes a crisis.”
Managing your weight, eating a balanced diet, stopping smoking, bringing down high blood pressure and controlling cholesterol are all steps we can take to lower the risk of developing cardiovascular disease, which remains one of the country’s biggest killers.
These survey results suggest many of us still aren’t giving our heart health the attention it deserves.
